Try A Little Tinderness

Lets be honest, we all have a very love/hate relationship with Tinder. Most of the time we download the app, swipe for a bit, get bored, and then decide to delete the app just to re-download it two months later and the cycle begins all over again. For those of you that are in a long-term monogamous relationship and don't know what Tinder is allow me to break it down for you. Tinder is a simple online dating app that gives you the option to either swipe right on the ones you fancy, or left on the ones that didn't make the cut on the incredibly high standards your desperate ass holds. If the stars align and you both happen to swipe right... congrats - you are a match!

The Tinder game is much different here in London than it is in Springfield and Tulsa. Here are some key differences between the two countries dating profiles:

UK

1. There are so many more people here and they are from all over the world! This can make for some really interesting conversation.

2. The profile pictures consist mainly of:

- The infamous shirtless selfie

- Travel photos

- Drunken nights, where they probably don't even remember taking the photo.

3. EVERYONE puts their height in the "About Me" section... evidently if someone isn't 6ft, they are guaranteed to spend the rest of their life short and alone.

4. Drinking is the key to dating in London. This took me a bit to get used too... mainly because I am all alone in this country and a bit over cautious.

Springfield/Tulsa

1. Everyone on Tinder you probably already know or you know someone that knows them.

2. The profile pictures consist mainly of:

- Some sort of hunting picture (dead animals, guns, dressed in camo, or all of the above).

- Pictures of their car/truck... that no girl gives a damn about.

- The infamous shirtless selfie

3. No one needs to write in the "About Me" section because chances are we're already Facebook friends.

4. The dates normally consist of either coffee, food, or going for a nice walk in the park.

Now that we have briefly discussed the differences between the men's profile, let's move onto the actual dating process. Dating in London is very different from dating in the US. For starters, finding an overlapping free night in London is rare. Schedules hardly ever align and you end up scheduling a date two weeks in advance. Next, we have the zone problem... London is very big so dating someone that lives in a different zone can be a deal breaker. For instance, I live in Bow (Zone 2) and I was talking to a guy who lives in Essex (Zone 6), now this is kind of a bad example because both are east, but I still couldn't be bothered to catch the train and travel outside of the city. And as I said previously, all dates revolve around drinking. London has some of the best and most unique bars in the world! It would be a pity to waste a night at the theatre when you could be rolling around in a ball pit drinking Prosecco. Lastly, I don't think men understand the concept of dating on the weekend. 99.5% of dates are on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday... and since the dates revolve around drinking... getting up for work the next day can be rough.

Happy Swiping!
